General Briefing Notes
BLS/BLA and WMF
It is the responsibility of each competitor to check for the latest Balloon Live App (BLA) and BL Sensor (BLS) updates and become familiar with their Operation Recommendations and the WatchMeFly Learning Center:
CHECK for LATEST UPDATES:
- The latest version of the BLA is v2035. (subject to change)
- The latest BLS firmware is v4.19. (subject to change)
For further information and latest updates, please visit www.balloonlive.org.
You are encouraged to review the tutorial for using the Balloon Live App and Watch Me Fly. Additionally, there are documents attached here for your reference. The complete operation manual for the Balloon Live Sensor can be found here.
The GTBR and Young Guns pilots are required to complete an online Flight Report Form after each flight. You can view a tutorial here. You are required to enter complete information regarding the landowner at both launch and landing. If possible, please try to include a telephone number. Entering an estimated result for all drops (physical and electronic) is helpful for the scoring officials. You can add comments on each task and for the overall flight. This is the best way to communicate information to the scoring officer about a problem you encountered (ie. entering a declaration in the wrong slot, marker outside of the scoring area) or to report an incident. Flight report forms are to be completed as soon as possible after landing.
TEST AND TRAIN
To test the Balloon Live app with a BLS connected or on a dedicated device, you will have to log in with your WatchMeFly-account. Select the GTBR or Young Guns event to load the competition and practice flight data. To test that everything is running smoothly, start at least one flight recording and let the app record for a minimum of 5-10 minutes (the longer, the better). While recording this flight, you should test dropping markers and declaring goals. Watch especially for a good reactivity of the system. You should allow several minutes of wait time between a declaration and a marker drop for a more realistic situation. Don’t hesitate to repeat the recording. You can record multiple practice flights. Once you have stopped the flight, you can find your flight data on WatchMeFly.net for download. Until the General Briefing we will check to see if all pilots have completed a test and verify that they are using the correct versions.
