Gary Britton

Biography

In 1974 I added an LTA rating to my commercial FAA single and multi-engine airplane certificate.  My role as an event official began in 1980 when I served as Chief Observer for a regional event and then was Chief Observer/Chief Debriefer for the 1981 World Championship.  Since then, I have served as Chief Scorer, Steward, or Jury Member for several national and international championships.   I was Jury President for the US National Championships 2009-2019.  My competitive flying included several regional events, team championships, and US Nationals.  During 1991-1997 and again 2011-2020, I was a member of the BFA/HACD Board of Directors.  Ballooning awards include BFA President’s Award, Shields-Trauger Memorial Award for Service to Ballooning, Alan Boston Spirit of Ballooning Award, Spirit of Annie Award, and BFA Director’s Award.  In addition to flying for fun and competition, I operated a small commercial ride business until I quit flying in 2012.
