Scobie won a $2 raffle for a balloon ride in 1991 and got hooked. He started as a competition official in 1992 and attended many events in Australia and overseas, including 6 world championships, as an official. He commenced flying as a pilot in 2002, and his best competition result to date is 5th place and rookie of the year at 2007 Nationals.
